Happy Labor Day, friends and neighbors! Be safe out there this weekend.Tim Burke of 230 Elm and Lobster Grille fame has opened up the Backbar Grille over next to Tully’s Seafood Market (formerly the Before the Bridge restaurant and most recently T.R.’s) here in Hampton Bays.

Tim tells me that the new place has an eclectic menu with a nice selection of appetizers, burgers, sandwiches and entrée choices. They will be serving lunch and dinner, year-round, seven days a week. And, yes, there are lots of big-screen TVs for all of you sports fans out there. Stop by and check it out.

And some good news for all you Beach Hut nuts. The Beach Hut at Meschutt Beach County Park will be open on Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights through September, weather permitting, of course.

It’s another boy! Hilary and Ethan Rose are thrilled to announce the birth of their second child, George Robert Rose, who arrived on August 15 at 1:07 p.m. at Southampton Hospital. He tipped the scales at 8 pounds 4 ounces, and was 21 inches long. Proud big brother, Henry Michael, 2, welcomed baby George into the Rose household.

Hilary is the former Hilary Lambert, daughter of Sherry Lambert and the late Michael Lambert of Ridgewood, New Jersey. Paternal grandparents are Russell and Claudia Rose of Hampton Bays.

Happy birthday to Charlotte Kenreich! Charlotte’s day to shine is today, Thursday, August 29.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY GEOFF! Our son, Geoff Holthaus, celebrates his special day this Saturday, August 31. Stop in at Schmidt Brothers Produce in Southampton and say hi.

The Hampton Bays Historical and Preservation Society is offering another one of its historic boat cruises next Friday, September 6, at 5 p.m., on the Hampton Lady out of Soleau’s Wharf on Dune Road.
