The Metropolitan Transit Authority will provide extra service on its Long Island Rail Road lines on Friday, August 30, to accommodate the surge in visitors planning an early getaway for the start of the Labor Day weekend. Additional early afternoon service will depart from Penn Station in Manhattan to points east starting at 1:43 p.m. on Friday.
The LIRR will be operating on a weekend schedule on Saturday, August 31, and Sunday, September 1, and on a Sunday/holiday schedule on Monday, September 2. In addition, the normally scheduled extra Sunday afternoon Montauk Branch westbound trains will not operate on Sunday, September 1, but will instead operate on Monday, September 2.
