The 50th annual HarborFest was held in Sag Harbor over the weekend, celebrating the village’s maritime history.
The outdoor festival, held September 6-8, was organized by the Sag Harbor Chamber of Commerce, and largely centered on the Long Wharf area, but spanned out to include the entire village.
HarborFest, which began as the Old Whalers’ Festival in 1963 as a way to attract visitors early in summer, was gradually pushed to mid-September as it grew into a three-day event complete with music, food tastings, contests and historical tours. This year, it was held a bit earlier to capitalize on the still-lingering summer crowd.
