A Montauk man has been arrested and charged in connection with multiple burglaries of downtown Montauk motels in August, and is a suspect in several additional burglaries, East Hampton Town Police said on Saturday.
Franklin Guanga Sinchi, 30, of South Elmwood Avenue, was taken into custody at police headquarters on Friday and charged with three counts of second-degree burglary, a felony, as well as two counts of fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property and one count of fourth-degree criminal mischief, both misdemeanors, authorities said.
Police said they identified Mr. Guanga Sinchi from a prior arrest using surveillance images captured by detectives during an investigation. He was charged in relation to three burglaries that took place between August 2 and August 30, during which electronics, jewelry and women’s undergarments were stolen each time, according to police.
Two of the break-ins took place at the Ocean Beach Resort on South Emerson Avenue, while the third occurred at an occupied room at Daunt’s Albatross Motel on South Elmwood Avenue, officers said.
Mr. Guanga Sinchi has been linked to several other burglaries in Montauk as well and additional charges are expected, police said.
His arraignment in East Hampton Town Justice Court was set for Wednesday.
The investigation is ongoing, and police ask that anyone with information call them at (631) 537-7575. Calls will be kept confidential.
