As a result of a recent meeting of the Southampton Town Affirmative Action Task Force, the Board of Cooperative Educational Services of Eastern Suffolk has developed a 12-session class that aims to better prepare participants for the civil service examinations.
The course, titled “Civil Service Exam Test Taking Strategies,” will begin on Tuesday, September 24, and run from 6 until 9 p.m. at the H.B. Ward Career and Technical Center, located at 970 North Griffing Avenue in Riverhead. The classes will be held every Tuesday evening.
Registration costs $310 per person and it can be done up until the day classes begin.
Students will learn test-taking strategies and how to navigate through the civil service website when searching for and applying for career opportunities. In addition, the class will explain in depth the often complicated application and examination process.
In a prepared statement, Southampton Town Councilwoman Bridget Fleming, the Town Board’s liaison to the task force, said: “It’s the first class offered out here to include such a broad scope of information to help people find good jobs while serving their community. Understanding the complicated civil service process is almost as important as being prepared for the exam. This class addresses both.”
Ms. Fleming went on to point out that most government positions at Town Hall are civil service positions.
