The Westhampton Beach Fire Department extinguished a blaze that damaged two vacant rooms at the Dune Deck Beach Resort on Dune Road in the village shortly after 3 p.m. on Sunday.
Chief John “Chip” Bancroft said no one was injured in the fire, which his department was able to contain to two rooms in a building that sits adjacent to the main hotel. Firefighters were on the scene for about an hour.
Flames damaged the ceiling of one room while an adjacent room sustained smoke damage, according to Chief Bancroft.
JoAnn Clark, the property manager for the oceanfront hotel, said she called the fire department at around 3 p.m. She noted that employees were closing the hotel for the season when the fire was discovered.
Ms. Clark said she was told that the cause of the blaze was electrical in nature.
Southampton Town Fire Marshal Al Tyczkowski, who investigated the fire, could not be immediately reached for comment.
Ms. Clark noted that while the fire was quickly contained, she could not estimate the amount of damage to the two rooms. She said the hotel’s insurance company must inspect the damage first.
Both the Eastport and East Quogue fire departments provided mutual aid, and the Westhampton War Memorial Ambulance also responded to the scene. The Quogue Fire Department covered the Westhampton Beach firehouse until the blaze was contained.
