The Eastport South Manor girls cross country team defeated Westhampton Beach, 16-45, at Sunken Meadow State Park in Kings Park on September 24. The victory improved ESM to 2-0 in League V while dropping Westhampton Beach to 0-2. The boys team had a bye week last week on its dual meet schedule.
Both the boys and girls cross country teams went to the Suffolk Coaches Invitational on Saturday at Sunken Meadow. Tom Meehan placed third overall in the Varsity ‘A’ race in 17:07. Ryan Corbett won the Freshman ‘B’ race in 7:19. Alex DeCicco placed ninth in the girls Varsity ‘A’ race in 20:55. And Taylor McClay won the Freshman ‘A’ race in 8:02.
The Westhampton Beach boys golf team dropped both of its matches last week.
After falling, 6-3, to Center Moriches on September 24, the Hurricanes lost, 9-0, to East Hampton last Thursday, September 26.
Westhampton Beach is 1-5 this season.
The Lady Sharks won both of its matches last week, defeating Miller Place, 4-3, at home on September 24 before winning, 4.5-2.5, at Port Jefferson on Friday. Both matches were non-league.
ESM’s Julia Cutler and Taylor Bourguignon defeated Christina Yun and Rhianna Ruggiero, 6-4 and 6-3, at second doubles in the win over Miller Place. In the victory at Port Jeff, Victoria Chan defeated Kyra Decker in third singles in three sets. After winning the first set, 6-4, Chan lost the second set, 6-3, but then rebounded and won the deciding set, 7-5.
ESM is 1-4 in League VII, 4-5 overall.
The Lady Baymen have won three consecutive matches dating back to September 23.
They downed Southold/Greenport, 6-1, at home on September 23, defeated Bellport, 6-1, again at home on September 25 and then, two days later, won, 5-2, at Southold/Greenport.
Hampton Bays is 3-4 in League VIII, 4-4 overall.
