In a match that decided sole possession of second place in League VI—at least for the time being—the Westhampton Beach girls volleyball team fell, 3-2, on the road at Sayville on Monday.
The Lady Hurricanes won the first set, 25-12, but then dropped the second and third sets, 25-18 and 25-22. They then won the fourth set, 26-24, to force a fifth and deciding set, which the Lady Canes lost, 25-22.
Westhampton Beach fell to 3-2 in League VI and now sits in third place while Sayville improved to 4-1 to take over second. Undefeated East Hampton (5-0) sits in first place.
The Lady Baymen had their three-match winning streak snapped Monday with a 4-3 loss at home to Riverhead.
Hampton Bays is now 3-5 in League VIII play, 4-5 overall.
The Lady Hurricanes lost, 4-0, at home to Sayville on Monday. They only trailed 1-0 at halftime.
Westhampton Beach (0-4-1 League V, 1-6-1 overall) has hit a rough patch of late, having last won a game on September 12.
The Eastport South Manor girls soccer team lost, 1-0, at Islip on Monday. Hannah Franco scored off an assist from Mary O’Hara late in the second half to give the Lady Buccaneers the victory.
ESM is 2-4 in League V, 3-6 overall.
