Film Festival weekend is here. If you haven’t already gotten tickets, go to hamptonsfilmfest.org to see what is still available. I look forward to the event each year and already have my tickets.The Ladies’ Village Improvement Society of East Hampton is offering the $3,000 Madelon De Voe Talley Scholarship, which is available to a woman who is at least 25 years of age and wishes to return to college in an undergraduate program. The applicant must have been a resident of East Hampton Town (from Montauk to Wainscott) for at least two years. Applications for the scholarship are available in the LVIS office at 95 Main Street. The application should be completed and returned to the LVIS office by Friday, November 1.

Next week starts a slew of workshops for adults at East Hampton Middle School and East Hampton High School. Classes in acting, bridge, drawing (which I am teaching), computer, driving, and more are available. My workshop, “Drawing, Simple and Fun,” will meet on Wednesdays, from 6 to 8 p.m., beginning October 16. You can email me at karynmannix@optonline.net for info and registration. The fifth annual juried art show benefiting The Retreat is accepting submissions until tomorrow, October 10. The show is open to all artists with work in photography, oil, acrylic, watercolor, mixed-media, graphics, drawing, 2D, 3D, and sculpture. The work cannot be larger than 24” x 36”. Entry fee is $50 per entry, no limit to the number of entries.

On Saturday, from 9 a.m. to noon, is the Animal Rescue Fund’s 20th annual Stroll to the Sea Dog Walk. Pedigrees, designer dogs and mutts are all welcome to take the two-mile walk to the ocean starting from Mulford Farm. Free nail clipping for dogs, contests and treats. In an effort to promote cat adoptions, ARF has teamed up with Café Max for the month of October. Adopt a black kitten or cat, or any adult cat (over the age of one), during the month of October and receive a gift certificate to Café Max. For more information contact ARF at 537-0400 x203. From October 14 through 19, the YMCA East Hampton RECenter is celebrating YMCA’s Arts Week. The community is invited to the week of free events. Check out the schedule at www.ymcali.org/East-Hampton.

Next Friday, October 18, is the Quiz Show at the East Hampton Neighborhood House. A table of eight to 10 people makes a team. Organize a team with your friends and colleagues, or you can be placed at a table. The Quiz Show benefits the Neighborhood House’s Early Learning Center, which offers exceptional and affordable day care. Tickets are $50 per person or $400 for a table.
