Time to dust off my Messiah score and get back to work!The Choral Society of the Moriches will present its 77th season of Handel’s Messiah in December and rehearsals have begun! They take place on Monday evenings, from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m., in the chorus room of the William Floyd High School on Mastic Beach Road in Mastic Beach. (There is no rehearsal this Monday, October 14, due to Columbus Day.)

Zumba classes will be offered at the East Moriches Middle School, 9 Adelaide Avenue in East Moriches, beginning this week. Classes will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays (but not on school holidays).

Classes will run from October 7 through November 25 and are $10 per class, or $100 for all 13 sessions. This is a benefit for the East Moriches PTO. Babysitting is available for $1 per class! Call Kim at (917) 882-5806 for all the details.

Officials at the Center Moriches Free Public Library, 235 Main Street in Center Moriches, will host a grand opening celebration to mark the completion of their building expansion project. The event will take place on Saturday, October 26, from 2 to 5 p.m., with a welcome address by the library trustees scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Refreshments will be served and tours of the library will be given. All are invited to attend!

The Eastern Long Island Audubon Society will hold its annual dinner celebration on Wednesday, October 16, at the Suffolk Theatre on Main Street in Riverhead. The guest speaker will be Norman Smith who will give a presentation on snowy owls.

The cost for the dinner and program is $50 per person. Festivities begin with cocktails at 6 p.m. Call (631) 727-0471 or (631) 281-6001 to make a reservation or obtain more information.

The second annual Westhampton Beach Walk and Fall Festival is slated for Saturday, October 26. There will be music, entertainment, a petting zoo, pony rides and facepainting. To register for the walk (to benefit the Alzheimer’s Disease Resource Center), visit www.adrcinc.org and select the “Westhampton Beach Walk.”

The Eastport Elementary School will host a Fall Festival on Saturday, October 19, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., with a rain date of Sunday, October 20. That same day the Eastport South Manor Marching Band will compete in the New York State Field Band Conference competition in Mineola, so we hope for a sunny day! The marching band will also travel to Hofstra University on Thursday, October 17 for the annual Newsday Marching Band Competition!

Congratulations to the new members of the ESM National Honor Society who will be inducted this evening, October 10, at 7 p.m. at the high school in Manorville.
