The Hampton Bays girls volleyball team is in second place in League VII, as of Monday morning, after two victories last week.
The Lady Baymen beat Mattituck, 3-0, at home on October 1, then won, 3-0, at Pierson in a non-league meet on Friday.
Hampton Bays won, 25-10, 25-14, 25-20, in the win over Pierson. Samantha Pace had 11 kills, while Alexis Fotopoulos had 21 assists. The Lady Baymen won, 25-18, 25-9, 25-19, over Mattituck. Jean Louise Catena had 20 digs and Taylor Link had 15 digs.
The Hurricanes dropped two more matches last week, both by scores of 3-0, at Hauppauge on October 1 and at Bay Shore on Thursday, October 3. Westhampton Beach is 1-7 this season with 75.73 power points.
The Lady Hurricanes picked up two victories last week. After defeating Shoreham/Wading River, 3-0, at home on October 2, Westhampton Beach won, 3-1, at Eastport South Manor the following day, in a non-league match.
Westhampton Beach (4-2 in League VI, 8-2 overall) took care of Shoreham, 25-16, 25-18, 25-14. Against ESM, the Lady Canes took the first two sets, 25-23, 25-21, but lost the third set, 25-17. They won the fourth set, 25-22, to take the match. Morgan Tiska had 12 kills, and Lauren Lorefice had 17 assists.
It was a long week of matches for the ESM boys volleyball team. Even though the team had only two matches, both of them went to five sets. After winning, 3-2, at Connetquot on October 1, the Sharks returned home to lose a non-league match, 3-2, to Plainview JFK on Thursday, October 3.
ESM went back and forth with Connetquot last week. After losing the first set, 25-22, the Sharks came back to win the second set, 25-19, but then lost, 25-23, in set three. ESM was able to put two good sets together and beat the Thunderbirds, 25-18, 25-22. Eric Ferrante had 58 assists and 16 digs, Jon Suarez had 37 kills and 24 digs, and Tyler Brandow had 21 kills and 10 digs for ESM.
ESM had the tables turned against Plainview. The Sharks won the first set, 25-21, but then lost the second set, 25-16. ESM then won the third set, 25-19, but then dropped the final two sets, 25-12, 25-20. ESM is 2-4 in league play, 2-5 overall, with 105.23 power points.
The Lady Sharks won their lone league match last week, 3-2, at home over Islip on October 1. ESM won the first two sets, 25-22, 25-21, but lost the next two sets, 25-21, 25-23, forcing a fifth and final set, which the Lady Sharks won, 25-16. Nikki Illuzzi had 45 assists and Brittany Little had 13 kills, while Kristen Bohnenblusch and Morgan Johnson each had 11 kills.
ESM, as of Monday morning, sits in second place with a 5-1 League V record (5-3 overall).
The Hurricanes lost, 4-0, at Harborfields on Thursday, October 3, after having already lost, 1-0, at home to Rocky Point on October 1. Westhampton Beach is winless after 11 games this season, as it is 0-10-1 overall.
The Lady Hurricanes won their first League V game of the season on October 2, a 6-1 victory at home over Rocky Point. Brooke Alpert and Julianne Robbins each had hat tricks for Westhampton Beach, and Kathleen Mensch made seven saves in goal. Westhampton Beach did suffer a 2-0 loss at home on Friday to fall to 2-5 in League V, 3-7 overall.
The Lady Baymen split its two matches last week, losing, 6-1, at Shoreham/Wading River on October 2 but winning, 6-1, at Center Moriches on Friday. Hampton Bays is 4-6 in League VIII this season, 5-6 overall.
The Lady Sharks lost, 6-1, at home to undefeated League VII leader William Floyd on October 2. ESM is 1-6 in League VII this season, 4-7 overall, and has not won a league match since defeating Westhampton Beach, 4-3, on September 16.
