The Hampton Bays girls gymnastics team began its League III schedule last week with two home meets and was able to walk away with one victory. The Lady Baymen lost, 142.7-114.3, to Middle Country on October 2, but then rebounded with a 127.6-115.5 victory over Copiague on Friday.
Hampton Bays head coach Amy Stangasser said she enjoyed watching her team in the win over Copiague. Cindy Jimenez and Melissa Bradnick both did very well on their floor routines. Bradnick scored a 6.8, Jimenez scored a 5.7. Kaylee Catena also had a nice meet—she completed a handspring vault with a 8.0, then she performed a back handspring on the balance beam, which scored her a 7.6. Gabby Morea scored an 8.45 in her floor exercise with powerful high tumbling.
“This meet, the girls were confident and ready to perform at their best,” Stangasser said.
The Lady Baymen are 1-1 in League III, 2-3 overall.
