Two cars were involved in a crash on Sunrise Highway in Hampton Bays on Sunday night after one driver lost control, hit a guard rail and then slammed into the other vehicle, sending two people to the hospital and closing traffic for half an hour, according to State Police.
Both cars were traveling westbound at about 7:15 p.m. near Exit 66, just west of the Shinnecock Canal, a 2006 Nissan in the left lane, and a 2002 Dodge sedan in the right. The driver of the car in the left lane, 37-year-old Xiomara Guillen of Hampton Bays, lost control, caromed off the guard rail and struck the driver’s side door of a second vehicle, according to State Police.
The driver of the second car, 55-year-old Alviria Pressley-Doyle, of Philadelphia, and her 14-year-old child were taken by Hampton Bays Volunteer Ambulance to Southampton Hospital to be treated for head and neck pain.
No citations were issued.
Westbound traffic was closed for about a half hour while the accident was cleared, according to State Police Public Information Officer Frank Bandiero.
