Police said a homeless man was arrested for assaulting a Manorville man Friday morning in the McDonald’s on Flanders Road in Riverside after a dispute about his place in line.
Southampton Town Police said they arrested 47-year-old William Gilmore Jr., who is from Florida but is believed to be living in the area, at about 9 a.m. after he assaulted a man for taking his spot in line.
The victim told police that Mr. Gilmore came after him and punched him in the forehead, causing a scratch above his right eye and a cut above his left eye which required four stitches. The man also suffered bruising around both injuries and was taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center by Flanders Volunteer Ambulance.
Mr. Gilmore was arrested and charged with third-degree assault, a misdemeanor. He was arraigned in Southampton Town Justice Court and released that day after being advised that he is no longer allowed to enter the restaurant.
Later that afternoon, at 3:08 p.m., Mr. Gilmore returned to the McDonald’s to buy food. The restaurant manager signed a trespassing affidavit and Mr. Gilmore was arrested again, this time being charged with third-degree criminal trespassing.
He currently is being held in Suffolk County Jail in Riverside on $2,500 bail.
