Lawrence E. Brown of Sag Harbor died at home on October 6 of complications from Parkinson’s disease. He was 71.
Born in Harlem on October 20, 1941, he was the son of Irving and Gussie Brown, both of whom predeceased him. He lived in Greenwich Village and Chelsea in lower Manhattan before moving to Sag Harbor with his wife, Gloria, in 1990 when he retired from working as a master wood refinisher. In Sag Harbor, he enjoyed walking into town, drinking coffee at Java Nation, playing chess and talking with people.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by siblings, Betty Brown, Elaine Fergus, Mary Boyd, Brenda Roberson and Alvin Brown; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Yardley and Pino Funeral Home in Sag Harbor. A memorial service is being planned for the spring.
