The Westhampton Beach girls soccer team ended its season on a high note with a 2-1 come-from-behind overtime victory at Rocky Point on October 23.
Westhampton Beach senior Julianne Robbins scored off a pass from junior Brooke Alpert just two minutes into the first overtime to seal the win. Junior Arianna Riemma scored off a feed from junior Kennedy Skala with just under 10 minutes remaining in regulation to tie the game at 1-1 and force overtime.
Westhampton Beach junior Kathleen Mensch made nine saves in net.
The Lady Hurricanes finished the season 2-8-2 in League V, 3-10-2 overall. Robbins, Lauren Smith, Signe Schon, Natalie Reilly and Bridget Pamboris are expected to graduate in June.
Though it was not due to a lack of effort, the Hurricanes finished the season winless after playing to a 3-3 tie at Rocky Point on October 22.
Westhampton Beach senior Max Pastor, playing with a significant knee injury in his final game, scored the second of his two goals with 12 minutes remaining in regulation to tie the contest. Jeff Zavala, a junior, scored the other goal for the Hurricanes and Ryan Burke made 12 saves in his final high school game.
Joining Burke and Pastor at graduation this June will be Eric Hayes and Matt Higgins. Westhampton Beach’s final record stands at 0-11-1 in League V, 0-14-2 overall.
The Baymen lost their final match of the season, 7.5-1.5, to Mattituck at their home course of Calverton Links on October 22.
The loss dropped the Baymen’s final record to 2-10 in League VII. With the victory, Mattituck earned a share of the league title with Eastport South Manor.
