Richard J. Lovett, a longtime resident of Hampton Bays, died in his sleep on October 24. He was 63.
Born September 5, 1950, he was a graduate of Westbury High School, attended Embry Riddle College in Florida, and owned and operated Richard’s Custom Auto Body Shop and, more recently, Earthwork’s Excavating. He will be remembered for his love of restoring vintage cars. He was described by survivors as a “sweet curmudgeon.”
Mr. Lovett is survived by his daughter Kristie Lovett and grandson, Cameron, of West Islip; as well as his daughter Cassandra Lovett of Southampton. He is also survived by siblings, Robert Lovett II of Florida, Roger Lovett of Southampton, Robin Lovett, and Ryan Lovett and wife Deborah Lovett, all of Hampton Bays; and nephews, Ryan and Robert Lovett IV; and a niece, Riess Lovett.
