The Southampton Fire Department and the Southampton Village Highway Department cleaned up a fluid spill on David Whites Lane early Wednesday morning.
According to Second Assistant Chief Chris Brenner, the fire department got a call at 7:30 a.m. about a spill, and found a Emil Norsic & Son sanitation truck with a hydraulic line break. The break “sent hydraulic fuel all over the roadway from Mariner Drive, all the way to Powell Avenue,” according to Mr. Brenner.
Speedy Dry was applied to the fluid, containing the leak until a highway sand truck arrived. Sand was added to the spill and drying agent mix, and then a street sweeper was used to pick it all up.
David Whites Lane was closed in both directions for about an hour, with fire police diverting traffic, but is now open.
As of 10 a.m., Emil Norsic & Son had no comment.
