Suffolk County Police are still searching for a man who brandished a handgun while robbing an Eastport gas station late last month.
Authorities said the Citgo gas station on Montauk Highway, near Union Avenue, was robbed on October 29, though they did not provide a time.
The suspect is described as a white man between the ages of 25 and 35, and between 5 feet 10 inches and 6 feet 2 inches tall. He was wearing a dark-colored sweatshirt at the time of the robbery.
Police said the suspect pretended to buy an item and then pulled out a black handgun and demanded money when the clerk opened the cash register. After taking an undisclosed amount of money, the man fled the gas station on foot.
The robbery was one of a series of similar crimes being investigated by the Suffolk County Police. Gas stations in Calverton, Mastic, North Babylon, St. James, Dix Hills and Bohemia, as well as a Jamba Juice in Stony Brook and a GameStop store in Mattituck, were also robbed over a two-week span, according to authorities.
Police on Sunday arrested 35-year-old Paul Tromblee of Manorville and charged him with nine of the robberies, including some of the gas station robberies, though they do not believe he was involved in the Eastport gas station holdup. He was charged with eight counts of first-degree robbery and one count of third-degree robbery following his arraignment Sunday at the 1st District Court in Central Islip.
