After evading arrest for two weeks, a Riverhead woman was arrested Monday for shoplifting from a Riverside gas station and resisting arrest.
The owner of the Shamrock Gas Station on Flanders Road alleges that 25-year-old Shanice Woodson attempted to leave his convenience store with a pack of cigarettes and a bottle of juice without paying for them at 10:35 p.m. on October 28.
After a struggle, the gas station owner said Ms. Woodson dropped the pack of Newport cigarettes she was allegedly attempting to steal and fled the store with the juice.
Police responded to the scene and tracked Ms. Woodson down to a trailer at the Peconic View Trailer Park on Flanders Road in Riverside. Police questioned her and attempted to arrest her, but were prevented from doing so by two pit bulls that emerged from the trailer, allowing Ms. Woodson to flee the scene.
Police issued a warrant for Ms. Woodson’s arrest and she was apprehended at 11:15 a.m. Monday on Riverleigh Avenue in Riverside. She has been charged with petit larceny, resisting arrest and obstruction of government administration, all misdemeanors.
She was transported to police headquarters in Hampton Bays and held overnight for arraignment.
