A Tuckahoe man was charged with DWI after State Police clocked him going more than twice the legal speed limit on Sunrise Highway in Hampton Bays last week.
Troopers said they stopped 48-year-old Dylan Doherty at 8:45 p.m. last Wednesday, November 20, for driving more then 100 mph while heading east on Sunrise Highway, just west of the Hampton Bays exit. The posted speed limit on Sunrise Highway is 55 mph.
Mr. Doherty was found to be intoxicated, according to authorities, and charged with DWI, a misdemeanor, and speeding.
He was transported to Southampton Town Police headquarters in Hampton Bays for processing. He was released on an appearance ticket and must report to the Southampton Town Justice Court on Monday, December 9.
Scrap Metal Theft
A Water Mill woman reported that two or three men stole an estimated $400 worth of scrap metal and two $40 tractor batteries from her home on November 17.
The Towd Road woman told Southampton Town Police that the men stole about 20 pieces of scrap metal and the two batteries at around 3:45 a.m., noting that the thieves woke her up in the process. She said she looked out her window and saw a car parked in her driveway, and a man wearing camouflage and holding a flashlight loading the items into the vehicle.
The victim said the thieves fled in the car and headed in an unknown direction after spotting her. Police are investigating.

A Tuckahoe man reported that his 2013 Porsche 911 was stolen from his home Saturday morning.
The victim told Southampton Town Police that he heard the engine of the black convertible start up and the car drive down his Cold Springs Court driveway at 6:13 a.m. He noted that the car was locked and he was in possession of its keys.
The victim said he would provide detectives with surveillance video of his driveway.
