A minor accident between two cars at the entrance of the Montauk Recycling Center briefly shut down a portion of Montauk Highway yesterday afternoon while ambulance personnel and cleanup crews worked.
Three ambulances were called to the scene, but only two were needed as two of the injured parties were transported by a single ambulance. All three injured parties were transported to Southampton Hospital with “very minor injuries,” according to East Hampton Town Police Sergeant Peter Schmitt.
Montauk Highway was only closed while the ambulance personnel were on scene, he said, and the road opened shortly after the accident occurred around 3:40 p.m.
Mr. Schmitt also said despite rumors, the ambulances were not being escorted by a police vehicle.
