Several Hampton Bays, Westhampton Beach and Eastport South Manor athletes earned postseason awards at the end of their respective fall seasons.
A handful of teams at ESM had successful regular seasons. The football team finished third in Division III with a 7-1 record to earn the Big Four Champions distinction. The boys golf team went 10-1 en route to a share of the League VII title with Mattituck. The girls cross country team had its first-ever undefeated season (5-0) and captured the League V crown. And the boys volleyball team won the Division II regular-season title.
Mike Bianco, Joe Pesce and Cody Zeller all earned All-County and First-Team All-Division honors for their play on the football field this past season. Bianco—along with Joe Barile, Jaggar Chaisty and Austin Macchi—earned Academic All-Division honors for their work in the classroom. Barile, Macchi, Patrick Minogue and Joe Zarcone were also named First-Team All-Division players as Chaisty, Justin Pugal and Mark Zaharis were named Second-Team All-Division players.
Tyler Brandow, Eric Ferrante and Jon Suarez all earned All-County honors during the boys volleyball season. They were also named All-Division players and named to the All-Tournament Team. Kevin Reilly and Josh Undari were also named to the All-Tournament Team, while Undari also earned All-Division honors, and Reilly earned All-Academic honors. Brian Mundell was awarded the All-Division distinction as well.
The girls volleyball team had a good season, reaching the playoffs with a 9-3 League V record and a postseason victory over crosstown rival Westhampton Beach before losing to eventual county champion Kings Park in the semifinals. Nikki Illuzzi was named All-County for her efforts and was named to the All-County Tournament Team with teammate Morgan Johnson, who also earned All-Conference honors. Brittany Little, Amanda Rose and Heather Watson were all named All-League players.
Taylor McClay and Alex DeCicco led the undefeated girls cross country team all season long, and along the way they garnered many distinctions. Both girls earned First Team All-County, All-Division and All-League honors. McClay earned All-State honors and was the top Class A girls runner at the New York State Championships. She was invited to the elite Federation Championships but declined to participate. Danielle Venturino, Ashley Schafer and Jackie Wasilko were All-League runners.
Tom Meehan led the boys cross country team. He earned First Team All-County, All-Division and First Team All-League honors, and he qualified for the New York State Class A Championships. Ryan Corbett earned All-Division and First Team All-League distinctions.
Jackie Bukzin reached the New York State girls tennis championships to earn All-State honors for the second time in her young career. Sarah Jurgielewicz and Cassie Rivera earned All-League honors, while Emily Cereola was awarded the Suffolk County Girls Tennis League VII Sportsmanship Award.
The boys and girls soccer team missed out on the playoffs this past fall, but each had players earn postseason awards. The boys were led by Jacob Black, who was named an All-Conference player for his efforts. Michael Flynn and Keith Foley both earned All-League honors and Brendan O’Braitis earned Academic All-County honors. As for the girls, Rebecca Tooker was named All-Conference, while Tara Gomez and Nijay Brown were All-League.
Both Black and Tooker were named ESM’s Suffolk Zone Outstanding High School Physical Education Students of the Year. A boy and girl from each school in each season are given the award.
Rachel Pfeiffer, Leah Vantronk and Kathryn Gorman—independent gymnasts who attend Eastport South Manor—all earned All-League honors. Pfeiffer was also given the Marilyn Cross Scholar-Athlete Award.
Hampton Bays had a trio of teams finish third in their respective leagues during the fall, two of which made the playoffs. The girls volleyball team and boys soccer team both finished with 8-4 records to reach the postseason. The girls soccer team finished with an 8-3-1 overall record in League VIII, which is considered a developmental league where teams are not eligible for postseason play.
Alexis Fotopoulos and Jean Louise Catena earned All-Conference and All-League honors on the girls volleyball team, and they were also named to the All-County Tournament team. Catena was also named League VII Defensive Player of the Year. Alex Maitland-Ward and Samantha Pace were both named All-League, and Christen Bellucci earned Academic All-County honors.
Jean Blanco earned All-County and All-Conference distinctions for his play on the soccer field this fall, while Andres Tapia and Cristian Iquia also earned All-Conference honors. Nick Giannone and Christian Ruiz were named All-League players, and Kevin Quintero earned Academic All-County honors. The girls soccer team was led by Nikki Nolan and Alexis Radziul, who earned All-League honors.
The boys cross country team finished fourth in League VII with a 3-3 record. Nick Berglin ran to Second-Team All-County and First-Team All-League honors, while twin brother Christian earned Second-Team All-League honors. Cameron Heaney was the only female cross country runner to earn All-League honors.
The football team had a tough season, going 2-6 and missing out on the playoffs. Taylor Catz earned All-County honors, while he, Darrell Galicia, Cody Nolan and Erik Ramirez were named First-Team All-Division players. Ryan Cavanaugh, Thomas Tretola and Joe Veeck earned Second-Team All-Division honors.
Kaylee Catena, Gabriella Morea and Drew Zaweski were All-League gymnasts at Hampton Bays this past fall. Rebecca Martinez was a Section XI Scholar Athlete, and Cassandra McCuen was a Section XI Honorable Mention.
Jade Zaluski earned All-Conference honors while playing for the field hockey team. Rebecca Harris and Isabella Quiros were All-Division players.
Boys cross country and field hockey were awarded the Sportsmanship Award in their respective leagues. Boys and girls cross country, football, girls gymnastics, girls tennis, girls volleyball, girls soccer, field hockey and football cheerleading were all named New York State Scholar Athlete teams.
It was a quiet fall for Westhampton Beach teams, as just one team, girls volleyball, qualified for the postseason after going 8-4 during the regular season. Alexa Smith, Sarah Culver, Morgan Tiska and Lauren Lorefice were named All-League players, while Ivonne Grunseich earned Academic All-County honors.
The football team just missed out on a playoff berth after a 4-4 season. Evan Gagne and Zach Rignola earned All-County honors while Stephen Tagliavia and Liam Culhane were named First-Team All-Division players. Patrick Dean, Ben Bruzga and Jack Fink were named Second-Team All-Division players.
It was a down season for both the boys and girls soccer teams. Ryan Burke earned All-Conference honors, while Eric Hayes was named All-League. Matt Higgins earned Academic All-County distinction. For the third consecutive season, Brooke Alpert and Julianne Robbins earned All-Conference honors. Higgins and Lauren Smith were both selected as the Suffolk Zone Outstanding High School Physical Education Students of the Year at Westhampton Beach.
Matheus Silverio was named an All-County player on the boys volleyball team. Collin Carrieri was named All-Division, while Tom Lambert and Erik Nidzyn were All-Division Honorable Mentions. Brian Schwartz, Wyatt Richter and Chris Peraino all earned All-Academic honors, while Schwartz was awarded All-Academic Elite status.
Graham Brown and Alex Patricolo were All-League runners on the boys cross country team. Jennifer Jordan was an All-County and First-Team All-Division runner for the girls.
Lauren Halsey earned All-Division honors while playing girls tennis this past season. Jodie Sipala and Sarah Strebel were All-League players.
Independent gymnast Alexa White earned All-League honors and was a Section XI Scholar Athlete.
