An East Hampton man was arrested and charged with DWI last week after authorities said he passed a stopped school bus along County Road 39 in Southampton as the driver was dropping off children.
Douglas Wilson, 49, was arrested by State Troopers at around 3 p.m. on December 3, shortly after he passed a school bus that had its red lights activated, warning other drivers that children could be crossing the four-lane highway. It was not immediately clear if Mr. Wilson was driving in the same or opposite direction of the bus; state law requires that drivers traveling in both directions come to a stop until the red lights are turned off.
Mr. Wilson was charged with aggravated DWI, a misdemeanor, according to police.
After being arrested and processed, Mr. Wilson was released on an appearance ticket.
