The Hamptons tourist season is getting longer and longer … and now Long Island Rail Road trains will run on a weekend schedule for an additional 10 weeks to allow more people to come out to the East End in the spring and fall.
According to New York State Assemblyman Fred W. Thiele Jr., the Metropolitan Transportation Authority included a 10-week extension of weekend train service to Montauk in the proposed 2015-2018 Financial Plan and July Financial Plan.
Seasonal service to Montauk would be extended for 10 weeks beginning in October of this year. This is due to the fact that the Hamptons has become increasing popular over the last few years, with a bustling tourist season in the spring and fall months.
“With the East End’s growing reliance on the tourism trade, out economy is dependent of getting people out here,” Mr. Thiele said. “By providing more weekend service to Montauk, we would be putting more resources into the hands of our local year-round business owners and their families.”
