A 26-year-old Bridgehampton man suffered non-life-threatening injuries last week after he was beaten with a handgun by an unknown man who invaded his home and demanded money before fleeing with multiple electronic devices, according to Southampton Town Police.
The initial investigation by police revealed that the home was targeted by the intruder and was not a random incident, according to police. No arrests have been made.
Authorities said the intruder entered the Bridgehampton-Sag Harbor Turnpike home at around 11:30 a.m. last Tuesday, August 12, pushing his way past the 51-year-old woman who answered the door. The relationship between the woman and victim was not known by police. Police did not know who made the 911 call, nor how long the assailant was inside the home. Police also did not know what kind of handgun was used.
The intruder immediately ran upstairs, confronted the victim and demanded money before beating the man multiple times with a handgun, according to authorities. The intruder stole several electronic devices from the home before fleeing on foot, they said.
Southampton Town Police, Sag Harbor Village Police and a Suffolk County Sheriff’s K-9 Unit all responded to the home and searched the immediate area, but did not find the suspect.
Southampton Town Police detectives are still investigating the home invasion.
