The Montauk Playhouse Community Center Foundation will host two community information sessions in August to discuss with residents the updated plans for the construction of an aquatic and cultural center in an unfinished section of the Montauk Playhouse, a project that is expected to be completed by 2016.
The meetings will be on August 23 at 9 a.m. and August 28 at 7 p.m. at the Senior Nutrition Center at the Montauk Playhouse Community Center at 240 Edgemere Street in Montauk. Members of the foundation will discuss the new plans in detail and answer questions from residents. Refreshments will be served.
The aquatic center is planned to have a 25-yard lap pool on the second floor of the space with decking, lockers, offices and fitness classes. The proposed cultural center will be below the pool on the ground level and is expected to be used for lectures, live theater and other community events.
Funds are currently being raised for the completion of the construction. There will be a concert at The Surf Lodge in Montauk on August 24 that will also help raise funds for the project.
