Police: 21-Year-Old East Hampton Man Charged With Rape


A 21-year-old East Hampton man was arrested by East Hampton Town Police in connection with the reported rape of a 16-year-old girl.

Leander Kobolakis was arrested on Friday at approximately 6:45 p.m. by police, who initiated an investigation after the victim and her father reported the incident.

Mr. Kobolakis was arraigned in East Hampton Town Justice Court on Saturday morning, according to the release, and pleaded not guilty. According to East Hampton Town Justice Court, he was released after posting $10,000 cash bail.

“Outstanding work by the detective division with a difficult case,” said East Hampton Town Police Chief Michael Sarlo in an email. “Crime victims deserve a thorough and professional investigation, and our detectives work diligently to bring closure to these cases.”
