Bomb Scare Closes Jobs Lane In Southampton Village On Sunday Afternoon

Reports of a suspicious package on Jobs Lane in Southampton Village on Sunday closed down a portion of the street for roughly three hours while a bomb squad from the Suffolk County Police Emergency Services Unit searched the area.

A robot and an X-ray machine were used to evaluate the package, which was found outside the Douglas Elliman Real Estate office at 70 Jobs Lane at 1:32 p.m. on Sunday, according to Southampton Village Police Detective Sergeant Herman Lamison. Patrons were evacuated from several nearby businesses to ensure their safety, and part of the street was blocked off at the direction of the bomb squad unit.

Police ultimately determined that the package did not contain any explosives, and it was removed from the scene, with Jobs Lane being reopened at 4:56 p.m.

According to Det. Sgt. Lamison, the package contained floor tiles and stone that were wrapped with several layers of packing and electrical tape.

It was not clear where the package came from or whom it belonged to.
