A 69-year-old woman was treated for severe facial injuries and trauma to her mouth after she was struck by a line attached to a pound net while aboard a boat Sunday night, according to Southampton Town Police.
The woman was hit in the mouth at about 7 p.m. while riding on a 2003 34-foot Baha vessel, police said. The woman and the operator of the boat were the only ones aboard the vessel, which was traveling east in Little Peconic Bay west of Jessup’s Neck.
Town Police, the Southampton Town Bay Constables and Southampton Volunteer Ambulance responded to the scene. The boat’s operator, only identified as a 45-year-old man from Sag Harbor, notified authorities. Police and ambulance officials met the two at a dock on Towd Point Road in North Sea.
Town Police are investigating the incident and are asking anyone with information to call (631) 702-2230.
