Pierson Girls Volleyball Splits Matches; Lady Mariners Drop Two


The Pierson girls volleyball team moved to 1-1 in League VIII, 1-2 overall after splitting a pair of league matches last week. The Lady Whalers were swept by Greenport/Southold, 3-0, on September 10 at home but rebounded with a 3-1 win over Mercy in Riverhead on Friday. Against Mercy, Pierson won the first set, 25-21, lost the second, 25-22, and then won the next two sets, 25-13 and 25-22. Morgan Vaughn led Pierson with 20 digs and 14 serves, while Mackenzie Benbenek had 10 serves and Maisy Guyer had 11.


The Lady Mariners fell to 0-2 in League VII, 0-2 overall, with a pair of 3-0 losses last week, falling to Hampton Bays on the road on September 9 before losing at Bayport/Blue Point on September 11. Against Hampton Bays, Southampton lost with scores of 25-5, 25-7 and 25-21. Scores for the Bayport match were not available.
