East Hampton and Southampton remained undefeated atop the League VIII boys golf standings with wins last week, while Pierson (3-1) suffered its first loss of the season.
The Whalers were downed, 7-2, at their home course, Noyack Golf Club, by Southampton on September 18. Christian Oakley led the Mariners with a 1-over par 37. His teammates, Matt Morgani, Tim Kreymborg and Tom Fullam, all shot 48. Ben Kushner led Pierson with a 47. Southampton beat Pierson in team stroke total, 235-249. It was the only match of the week for Southampton (3-0).
Pierson sandwiched its loss to Southampton with a pair of wins, getting past Westhampton Beach 8-1 at Noyack on Monday after beating Ross by the same score on September 17. In the win over Westhampton Beach, Tyler LaBorne led the Whalers with a 41, while Jack Brown (42), Charles Canavan (43), and Matt Burke (47) all contributed with head-to-head wins. Bobby Joyce beat Pierson’s Ben Kushner at the number one spot with a 48, by one stroke, to get Westhampton Beach’s point. Pierson had a 222-256 advantage in team stroke total.
Against Ross, Pierson was led by Canavan (43), LaBorne (45), Kushner (47), Burke (48) and Theo Gray (48), and had a 231-258 advantage in team stroke total.
The Bonackers (2-0) beat Westhampton Beach (1-3), 7-2, at the Westhampton Country Club on September 18. Joyce (48) edged East Hampton’s Turner Foster (49) by one stroke at the top spot, while Bonackers Steven Kane (43), Regis O’Neil (51), Jack Bistrian (47) and Ryan White (40) all won their matches. East Hampton beat the Hurricanes, 230-265, in team stroke total.
