East Hampton Police Ask Public To Help Identify Burglary Suspect; Reward Offered

East Hampton Village and Town Police last week asked for the public’s help in investigating burglaries at Nichol’s and La Fondita restaurants, break-ins that took place within 24 hours of each other about one month ago, according to East Hampton Village Detective Steven Sheades.

Crime Stoppers is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.

The burglary at Nichol’s in East Hampton took place on August 31 at approximately 1 a.m., said Det. Sheades. The second took place at La Fondita, in Amagansett, the following morning, September 1, at 12:45 a.m. In both instances, the subject entered the restaurant and stole the safe box, he said. About $15,000 was stolen from Nichol’s, and roughly $5,000 was stolen from La Fondita.

“Right now, it appears that they are connected,” Det. Sheades said of the burglaries.

Police released a screenshot of a suspect from surveillance video taken during the Nichol’s burglary.

Anyone with information regarding the burglary at Nichol’s is asked to contact East Hampton Village Detective Sergeant Matt Bennett at 324-0777, and anyone with information regarding the burglary at La Fondita should contact East Hampton Town Detective Sergeant Greg Schaefer at 537-7575.
