October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Southampton Hospital and the Coalition for Women’s Cancers at the hospital have planned a number of events to increase awareness and raise funds to support local breast cancer survivors.
For the month of October, Sabrosa Mexican Grill in Water Mill will donate the total bill amount for the 100th customer each day to the Coalition for Women’s Cancers at the hospital. Deborah Thompson Day Spa in Montauk will donate 10 percent from all treatments during the month of October to the coalition. Look Good, Feel Better, a free program that will offer beauty techniques to women who are actively undergoing cancer treatments, will be held on Tuesday, October 14, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Hampton Bays Library on Ponquogue Avenue.
The Shelter Island 5K Run/Walk to benefit the North Fork Breast Health Coalition and the Coalition for Women’s Cancers at Southampton Hospital will be held on Saturday, October 18, at 11 a.m. The walk/run will begin at Crescent Beach. The annual Birdhouse Auction will be held on Saturday, October 18, at 6 p.m. at the Southampton Social Club on Elm Street. Visitors can view birdhouses designed by local artists and add a few to their collections. Advance tickets are $25 and $30 the day of the event. Free makeovers for breast cancer survivors will be held on Friday, October 24, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Macy’s on West Montauk Highway in Hampton Bays. Breast cancer awareness events will continue into the month of November with a health fair on Friday, November 7, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Most Holy Trinity Church in East Hampton. A “Chicks with Sticks” yarn and craft sale will be held on Saturday, November 8, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Parrish Memorial Hall on the corner of Herrick Road and Lewis Street in Southampton.
