East Hampton Swimmers Fly Past Hauppauge At Home

The East Hampton girls swim team put in a dominant performance in a 106-59 win over Hauppauge at the East Hampton YMCA on October 16, improving to 2-2 in League III, 4-2 overall.

East Hampton swept the top three spots in five of the 12 events on the day, and won two of the three relays.

Madison Jones was named East Hampton’s “Swimmer of the Meet,” winning two individual events and competing on both winning relay teams. Jones won the 50-yard freestyle in 26.05 seconds, followed by teammates Lilah Minetree (second in 26.07) and Carly Drew (third in 26.20). Jones also won the 100-yard freestyle in 56.71 seconds, while Isabella Swanson was third in that race in 1:01.00. Jones was also part of the winning 200-yard medley relay team (1:59.16), along with Cecilia DeHavenon, Drew, and Minetree, and was part of the winning 200 free relay (1:46.43) with Isabella Swanson, Drew and Minetree.

Georgi Bogetti won a pair of events, taking first in the 200 free in 2:05.32. DeHavenon was second in that race in 2:11.91, while Amanda Calabrese was third in 2:11.93. Bogetti also won the 500 free in 5:21.87, followed by Sydney Walters (second in 6:38.57) and Kerrie McCaffrey (third in 7:00.10).

Swanson won the 200 yard IM in 2:28.67, with Diana Winthrop taking second in 2:31.90. East Hampton also swept the 100 yard butterfly, with Drew taking first in 1:01.59, followed by Marikate Ryan (1:08.57) and Emma Wiltshire (1:20.81). The Lady Bonackers took the top three spots in the 100 backstroke, with Calabrese leading the way with a county meet-qualifying time of 1:07.54, followed by Winthrop (1:08.98) and Alexandra Vecchio (1:20.04).

DeHavenon also qualified for counties in the 50 free with her time of 26.45 seconds as the lead-off swimmer in the 200 free relay.

East Hampton was scheduled to finish the regular season at West Babylon on October 21, and will compete in the League III meet at Hauppauge on October 30, and will bring the swimmers who qualified for counties to that meet on November 8 at Suffolk County Community College in Brentwood.
