Monday Night Roundup: East Hampton Field Hockey Shuts Out Hampton Bays


The East Hampton field hockey team took care of business at last place Hampton Bays, beating the Lady Baymen 4-0 with four first-half goals on Monday. Alyssa Bahel, Vanessa Hammond, Francesca Keogh and Sophia DePasquale all scored for East Hampton, which improved to 8-5 with the win and most likely assured itself a spot in the Class B playoffs with the victory, despite the outcome of its final regular season game with Rocky Point, scheduled for October 22 in East Hampton. Leonella Acevedo earned the shutout in goal for the Lady Bonackers.

The Pierson field hockey team, which will advance to the postseason in Class C, beat Sayville, 1-0, at home, improving to 9-4. Erica Selyukova scored off an assist from Ana Sherwood during a corner with 8:01 left in the first half. Pierson outdueled Sayville, 12-4 on corners and 18-4 on shots on goal. The Lady Whalers were slated to host Babylon on October 22 in the final regular season game.

Southampton lost, 1-0, at home against Comsewogue, falling to 7-6. The Lady Warriors scored the only goal with less than three minutes left in the game. The Lady Mariners were scheduled to host Shoreham on October 23 in the final regular season game. Southampton was expected to earn the top seed in the Class C playoffs, which would give it a bye into the county title. Pierson was expected to earn the second seed and host third seed Babylon for the right to advance to the county final.
