East Hampton Town Declares November AED Awareness Month

East Hampton Town Supervisor Larry Cantwell issued a proclamation on Tuesday morning naming November as “AED Awareness Month” in East Hampton Town.

The East Hampton Healthcare Foundation, the East Hampton Village Ambulance Association and the town have been working together to increase public awareness of automated external defibrillators (AEDs), which send a shock to the heart to try to restore a normal rhythm, and their importance as a critical first step in improving survival rates from sudden cardiac arrest.

Since 2007, the East Hampton Healthcare Foundation, in coordination with the East Hampton Village Volunteer Ambulance Association have placed 42 AED units throughout the town at businesses and public buildings.

The program is funded through a grant from the Kazickas Family Foundation.
