40 People Cited For Fishing Violations

Southampton Town Bay Constables cited 40 people with violations of various fishing-related laws on two recent Sundays during sweeps of popular fishing spots in Hampton Bays and Southampton.

The fishermen were cited for various violations including: not having state-issued Saltwater Fishing Registry cards; taking of fish species that were out of season; possessing more fish than legal limits allow or keeping fish under the required minimum sizes; illegal dumping; and spearfishing in navigation channels.

The sweeps targeted those fishing near both jetties along the Shinnecock Inlet, in Hampton Bays and Southampton Village, as well as boaters in and around the navigation channel. Three constables questioned more than 150 fishermen, issuing 40 summonses.
