In its final tune-up before the Section XI (Suffolk County) state qualifier meet, the East Hampton girls swim team competed in the League III meet at Hauppauge High School on October 30, finishing third overall with 238 points. Harborfields (356) won the meet, followed by Sayville/Bayport/Blue Point (296). Hauppauge was fourth with 144 points.
The Lady Bonackers finished in the top three in all three relays, with the 200-yard medley team of Cecilia DeHavenon, Madison Jones, Carly Drew and Lilah Minetree taking second in 1:59.61, the 200 free relay team of Amanda Calabrese, Isabella Swanson, Drew, and Minetree taking second in 1:49.17, and the 400 free relay team of Marikate Ryan, DeHavenon, Drew and Jones taking third in 3:58.85.
Drew was an individual winner for East Hampton, taking first in the 100 yard butterfly in 1:01.09, remaining undefeated in her signature race this season. DeHavenon had two top-10 finishes, taking third in the 100 backstroke in 1:05.17 and eighth in the 200 individual medley in 2:32.15. Calabrese also had a pair of top-10 finishes, taking fourth in the 100 backstroke in 1:08.82 and fifth in the 200 free in 2:11.62. Jones was fifth in the 50 free in 26.61 seconds and fourth in the 100 free in 57.63 seconds, while eighth-grader Oona Foulser was eighth in the 200 free in 2:20.02 (a personal best by more than nine seconds) and sixth in the 500 free in 6:14.59 (a personal best by seven seconds).
Isabella Swanson was sixth in the 200 IM in 2:28.62 and sixth in the 100 butterfly in 1:06.11. Minetree was sixth in the 50 free in 26.81 and seventh in the 100 free in 59.90. Emma Wiltshire was ninth in the 200 free in 2:20.53 and seventh in the 500 free in 6:16.63. Ryan was ninth in the 200 IM in 2:33.65, and ninth in the 100 butterfly in 1:08.85. Diana Winthrop, who swam in the meet despite battling illness a few days earlier, was ninth in the 100 free in 1:02.08 and 10th in the 100 backstroke in 1:13.91. Jenna Budd was 10th in the 50 free in 28.42 seconds; Sydney Walters was 10th in the 500 free in 6:43.08; and Vanessa Betancur and Lucy Emptage finished ninth and 10th, respectively, in the 100 breaststroke with times of 1:22.72 and 1:22.95.
East Hampton will be well represented at the state qualifier meet at Suffolk County Community College in Brentwood on Saturday, where competition is set to begin at 10:30 a.m. All three relays qualified for counties, while individual qualifiers include: Georgi Bogetti (200 free, 200 IM, 50 free, 100 free and 500 free); Isabella Swanson (200 IM, 100 butterfly); Madison Jones (50 free, 100 free); Lilah Minetree (50 free, 100 free); Carly Drew (50 free, 100 butterfly); Cecilia DeHavenon (50 free, 100 butterfly, 100 free, 100 backstroke); and Amanda Calabrese (100 butterfly and 100 backstroke).
East Hampton gave out team awards at the conclusion of the regular season as well. Drew was named Most Valuable Swimmer, for her undefeated run in the 100 butterfly and for being a part of all three relays, while Julia Peralta was named Most Improved Swimmer. Diana Winthrop was given the Coach’s Award.
