Police: Thieves Steal Cash, Inspection Stickers From Tuckahoe Auto Repair Shop


Thieves broke the front window of a Tuckahoe automobile repair shop over the weekend and made off with more than $3,400 in cash and 100 vehicle inspection stickers, according to authorities.

The owner of South Shore Brake East on County Road 39 notified Southampton Town Police about the theft on Saturday morning. The victim said the thieves targeted the business sometime between 6 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. Saturday, when it was closed, and stole the cash and stickers from the office.

Eighty inspection stickers, worth $480 combined, as well as 20 stickers for heavy-duty vehicles, worth $80 total, were taken, according to the report.

Detectives are investigating the theft.

Kmart Reports Theft

A woman walked out of the Bridgehampton Kmart on Sunday afternoon without paying for about $150 worth of clothing and accessories, according to Southampton Town Police.

An employee told authorities that a woman exited the store sometime between 4:30 and 5:30 p.m. that day with the following items: a pink shirt valued at $9.98, a red hat worth $6.99, sunglasses valued at $12.99, a man’s jacket worth $69.99, leggings valued at $15.99, and jeans worth $29.99.

The employee who witnessed the theft did not provide police with a description of the woman. The worker also did not know if she fled on foot or drove away in a car. Detectives are investigating.
