East Hampton Town’s budget officer, Len Bernard, and chief auditor and CPA, Charlene Kagel, have earned a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada.
The award is said to be the highest form of recognition in the field of government accounting and financial reporting.
The two professionals were judged on their presentation of the town’s Comprehensive Annual Financial Report, which is reviewed by an impartial panel with a focus on high standards and the “spirit of full disclosure” in financial reporting.
“It’s really an example of the qualified financial team we’ve assembled here in the town,” Mr. Bernard said on Friday. “It’s a complete picture of the town,” he said of the report. “It was a team effort and I give Charlene a lot of credit for really presenting it in a cohesive manner.”
The Government Finance Officers Association, based in Chicago, is a nonprofit professional association that serves approximately 17,500 government finance professionals.
