Halsey Lane in Water Mill was reopened late Monday morning after a large tree fire knocked power lines onto the road earlier in the morning, closing the street.
The Southampton Fire Department was called to the scene at 9:54 a.m. on Monday following reports of a fire on Halsey Lane. Upon arriving, it was determined that a large tree branch had dropped down onto the wires calling them to arc, Second Assistant Chief Chris Brenner said.
Fire officials immediately checked on the occupants of the house and learned they were safe. PSEG was called to the scene where Chief Dennis Roy was in charge.
The road was officially reopened to the public at 11:15 a.m.
