UPDATE: B. Smith Found Safe In Manhattan

B. Smith has been found safe, police officials have confirmed.

Ms. Smith was found Wednesday afternoon in a Manhattan diner, ABC News has reported. Sag Harbor Police confirmed that the case has been closed.


Former model, media personality and restaurateur Barbara Smith, known widely as “B. Smith,” has been reported missing, Sag Harbor Village Police have confirmed.

Police declined to provide any other information about the missing persons case on Wednesday morning, saying only that it is an active investigation.

Earlier this year, Sag Harbor resident Ms. Smith, who started her career as a model and was the first African-American woman on the cover of Mademoiselle in July 1976, announced that she has Alzheimer’s disease, which impacts memory. Ms. Smith, who is married to Dan Gasby, has also owned several restaurants with locations in Sag Harbor, Manhattan and Washington, D.C.

According to Fox News, Ms. Smith was last seen on Tuesday night traveling on the Hampton Jitney from New York to Sag Harbor, when she exited the bus in Southampton. They are reporting she was wearing a blue sweater, pink shirt, jeans and black sneakers.
