A 23-year-old man is facing a felony charge after authorities said he stole a pink-and-black ATV and was observed driving around the streets of Flanders on Friday afternoon.
Joseph Sheppard of Riverhead was seen driving the quad on Woodroad Trail shortly before 5 p.m., and Southampton Town Police officers followed him to Priscilla Avenue, where he was arrested and charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, a felony.
He was also ticketed for failure to display a registration sticker and operating an ATV on a roadway, both violations, according to police.
Officers said they followed Mr. Sheppard for several minutes before he finally stopped.
Police impounded the ATV and Mr. Sheppard was released on an appearance ticket.
A home health care aide turned herself in to Southampton Town Police last week and admitted to stealing medicine from one of her patients in North Sea last month.
Crystal Garner, 29, of Riverhead was arrested at 2:15 p.m. on April 6 at police headquarters in Hampton Bays and charged with one count of petit larceny, a misdemeanor, authorities said.
Police said Ms. Garner stole pain medication on March 21 from a patient who lives off Noyac Road. The patient filed a report, and it took authorities several weeks to locate Ms. Garner.
She turned herself in last Monday, April 6, and was released on an appearance ticket, according to authorities.
Someone stole two bottles of alcohol and an assortment of glassware from a home on Shrubland Road in Tuckahoe between April 6 and last Saturday.
The victim, who returned home on Saturday afternoon, told Southampton Town Police that someone stole a bottle of Absolut vodka worth about $40 and a bottle of Bombay gin worth $30. Additionally, the victim said the thieves took 12 Villeroy glasses worth $300 combined, four Waterford glasses worth $200 total, and five wine glasses worth $25 combined.
Police said the home did not appear to be disturbed other than the missing items.
The homeowner told police that the home was locked before he left for the week.
Detectives are investigating the burglary.
Thieves cut a hole in the fence encircling the PSEG yard on Montauk Highway in Bridgehampton earlier this month and stole more than $6,000 worth of wire.
The theft occurred between Saturday, April 4, and Monday, April 6, and the perpetrators made off with nearly 1,100 feet of copper wire, worth $4,322, and 700 feet of No. 2 triplex cable, worth $2,114, according to a report filed with the Southampton Town Police.
Police are investigating the theft.
