The driver of the motorcycle involved in Sunday afternoon’s accident has been charged with DWI, police confirmed on Wednesday.
According to Detective Sergeant Lisa Costa, Stephen Webber, 58, of Kings Park was riding his Harley Davidson eastbound on the westbound shoulder of Montauk Highway shortly after 4 p.m. on Sunday with his wife, Karen, when a 2001 Chevy Tahoe, whose driver has not been identified, made a left hand turn off of Montauk Highway and the two collided.
Mr. Webber was flown via helicopter to Stony Brook University hospital in serious condition, where he was charged with DWI, a misdemeanor, and given a field appearance ticket for a later date. Mrs. Webber was taken via ambulance to Brookhaven Hospital and is in stable condition.
Two motorcycle riders in Bridgehampton were taken to the hospital on Sunday afternoon with serious injuries after they collided with a car near the Bridgehampton School shortly after 4 p.m.
Southampton Town Police said that one of the motorcyclists was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital and the other was taken by ambulance to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center. Nobody in the car was injured.
Police said that an arrest in connection with the accident was expected, but as of Wednesday morning could not say if one had been made or give any update in the case.
