Volunteers Gather Trash In Speonk, West Hampton Dunes, As Part Of Great East End Cleanup

Volunteers from the Speonk-Remsenburg Civic Association spent a few hours on Saturday afternoon picking up garbage along South Country Road, Montauk Highway and Nidzyn Avenue as part of the Great East End Cleanup, a townwide effort to pick up illegally dumped trash on public lands. More than 750 people participated this past weekend, according to a spokesperson from the town. Town Councilwoman Christine Scalera, who sponsored the event, worked with residents to clean up the bay side of Pikes Beach in the Village of West Hampton Dunes on Saturday. Residents in other areas picked up trash left behind on trails, in parks and on public beaches.ALEXA GORMAN PHOTOS
