Water Mill was well represented at the annual Generation Runway fashion show fundraiser on Sunday. The event, a benefit for the Flying Point Foundation, which was founded by yours truly, keeps topping its own success under the leadership of an amazing committee that includes Kerry Ann Gill and Kathymarie Fisher from Water Mill, plus Sharon Schreiber and Oona Cree.A crew of volunteers helps them out and several local boutiques loan fashions to be modeled by locals. The idea is for generations—mothers/daughters—to be represented on the runway, but it’s often siblings, friends, grandmothers. It’s a great afternoon out for the girls and raises funds for the foundation’s programs for families affected by autism.
As for me, as you would expect, I was there helping out but not in my usual energetic fashion. Thanks to a very clumsy move on my part, I broke my ankle the day before, and so I hobbled to the event on crutches and sat in a chair selling raffle tickets and later printing the red carpet photos for guests to take home.
It’s amazing to me to be so incredibly careful all winter long by keeping my walkway and porch cleared of ice that it would be on one of the nicest days of the year that my foot did not hit my porch step correctly and down I went. A trip to the emergency room ensued.
I must say that the staff at Southampton Hospital’s emergency room couldn’t be nicer and the waiting time was definitely tolerable. It’s a good feeling to know that we’ve got a top-notch hospital nearby.
