Monday Roundup: First Win For Mariners Boys Lacrosse; Pierson Baseball Beats Port Jeff


The Southampton boys lacrosse team experienced victory for the first time this season, shutting out Mercy, 10-0, at home on Monday to improve to 1-7 in League IV, 1-9 overall. It was the first win for varsity head coach Matt Babb, and the first varsity win for the program since 2011. The Mariners scored two goals in the first quarter, two more in the second, and took a commanding 8-0 lead into the fourth quarter. Nick Bontempo led the team with four goals and two assists, while Zach Finder had two goals and an assist.

Pierson Baseball

The Whalers (9-4) started a three-game series with Port Jefferson (7-6) with a 9-5 home win. Pierson broke out for seven runs in the first inning and never looked back. Ryan Chisholm, Charles Canavan and James Sherry each had two hits, while Luke Denis and Jack Fitzpatrick had a pair of RBIs. Sherry struck out nine in six innings of work for the win.

Southampton Softball

The Lady Mariners fell to 1-9 in League VI with an 11-7 loss to Mercy on Monday.

Southampton Boys Tennis

The Mariners dropped to 0-10 in League VII, 0-11 overall, after a 7-0 loss to first-place Mattituck (8-2, 9-3).

East Hampton Baseball

The Bonackers (2-11) managed only three hits and gave up two home runs in an 8-0 loss in the opening game of a three-game set with first-place Bayport/Blue Point (9-0 in League VII, 10-1 overall).

East Hampton Boys Lacrosse

The Bonackers lost, 9-5, at Comsewogue (5-5) to fall to 0-12 in League III, 1-12 overall. Jack Brierley led East Hampton with a goal and two assists.

East Hampton Girls Lacrosse

The Lady Bonackers took a tough 12-10 loss at Kings Park, a defeat that will really hurt their playoffs chances as the Lady Kingsmen were ranked four spots below East Hampton in the power rankings going into the game. East Hampton dropped to 5-6 while Kings Park improved to 4-6. Jenna Budd led the Bonackers with three goals and two assists, while Carley Seekamp had three goals and one assist.

East Hampton Softball

The Lady Bonackers ran into a buzz saw when they faced Mount Sinai and pitcher Cassandra Wilson on Monday. Wilson tossed a one-hitter with 16 strikeouts, carrying a no-hitter into the sixth inning with two outs. First-place Mount Sinai improved to 11-1 while East Hampton fell to 3-7.

East Hampton Boys Tennis

The Bonackers kept their unbeaten season going with a 7-0 sweep of Eastport South Manor, improving to 9-0 in League VIII. Julian MacGurn beat Alex Reiley at first singles, 6-2, 4-6, 13-11 (super tiebreaker in lieu of a third set), Jack Louchheim, Ravi MacGurn and Thomas Lawton won the rest of the singles matches for East Hampton, while Zach Bogetti and Harrison Kennedy won at first doubles, and Jordan Foster and Matty McMullan won at second. ESM forfeited at third doubles.
