Delaney Jones has been named the Lions Girl of the Month for May. She has been on the High Honor Roll throughout high school, served as the social media coordinator for Best Buddies, secretary of Key Club, and co-captain of the varsity girls soccer team. When she is not in school, Delaney spends time volunteering as an assistant Sunday School teacher at her church, working at Sip n’ Soda, and taking her dogs on walks to the beach. Her future plans include attending the College of Charleston to pursue a degree in special education and starting a nonprofit organization to help kids with disabilities. Delaney is the daughter of Pam Jackson and Bill Jones.

The Mariner Patriot Club members have been collecting treats to send off to the troops. On Saturday, May 2, they packaged the items that had been generously donated by staff members, students, and community members and sent them to two different locations with the purpose of letting the men and women serving know that they are appreciated and thought of often. “We are so grateful to everyone who have already donated to make the first four deliveries a success!” writes club advisor Jacqui Fritz.

A variety of community members provided students the opportunity to see and hear firsthand what professionals do during Career Day on Thursday, May 7. The students made their way around the school hearing from doctors, lawyers, a pilot, farmers, dancers, chefs, librarians, police officers, firemen, an actress, an estate manager, teachers, Mayor Mark Epley and Judge Barbara Wilson.
