A community forum to discuss a proposed workforce housing project in Speonk has been scheduled for December 2.
The project, which has not been presented to the Southampton Town Board and does not have an application on file yet, would potentially create 50 workforce housing units by targeting a mixed-use property in Speonk.
A similar project was first proposed by Jay Kopf. Now, with reduced density, the Southampton Town Housing Authority is also proposing workforce housing.
The 4.4-acre property, known locally as “the Castle,” is currently zoned both residential and business, and has been vacant for years.
The forum, scheduled for December 2 at 6:30 p.m. at the Remsenburg-Speonk Elementary School, will give Housing Authority Executive Director Curtis Highsmith, as well as developers David Gallo of Georgia Green Ventures, the opportunity to answer community members’ questions about the project.
